Agreement Signed for Key Oil Pipeline Project in Pakistan: Machike-Thalian-Taru Jabba Connection to Enhance Fuel Distribution

Islamabad: A significant step was taken to bolster Pakistan’s oil distribution framework as an agreement was signed for the construction of the Machike-Thalian-Taru Jabba White Oil Pipeline Project, which will enhance the petroleum products supply chain from Karachi to Peshawar. The ceremony, held in Islamabad, marked a pivotal advancement in the development of the country’s oil pipeline infrastructure.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the agreement involved major stakeholders including Pakistan State Oil and Frontier Works Organization. The project, spanning 477 kilometers, will connect Machike, near Lahore, to Taru Jabba, near Peshawar. This new pipeline will consist of two segments: Machike-Thalian and Thalian-Taru Jabba, strategically aligned along the Motorway. It also features connectivity options with Attock refinery, Chakpirana, and Faqirabad.

The initiative is designed to address multiple challenges in the current fuel distribution system by promoting the energy-efficient movement of petroleum products, reducing the risks of adulteration, enhancing safety, and minimizing environmental impacts. By shifting the primary mode of oil transport from road to pipeline, the project aims to improve the overall efficiency of distribution across the region.

The pipeline’s initial carrying capacity is projected to be seven million tons per annum, with the potential to extend up to 10 million tons per annum. The construction of the pipeline is expected to commence shortly, with all partners committed to adhering to the stipulated timeline for completion.

This project underscores the commitment of the Petroleum Division and the Special Investment Facilitation Council towards improving the infrastructure for an energy-efficient and reliable movement of petroleum products across Pakistan.
