Ahsan Iqbal Directs Strategic Realignment for Disaster Management

Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has directed the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) to align itself with evolving areas in disaster risk management and develop a ten-year business strategy focused on these emerging challenges. Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, the Minister emphasized the importance of adapting to new developments in the field and urged the organization to look beyond traditional funding methods.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister highlighted the need for the NDRMF to explore innovative funding avenues beyond the Public Sector Development Programme. During the meeting, a briefing was provided on the organization’s four strategic focus areas: disaster risk reduction, climate and disaster risk financing, disaster preparedness and recovery institutionalization, and knowledge creation, sharing, and risk-informed decision-making.

Ahsan Iqbal further insisted that project selection must be integrated with other provinces to ensure a comprehensive approach to disaster management. He emphasized that the NDRMF should concentrate on high-impact projects that offer a competitive edge and unique advantages in the field, enabling more effective disaster management strategies across the country.
