Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has stressed the need to establish a comprehensive national framework for food quality, quantity assurance, and safety. He was presiding over a meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee in Islamabad today.
According to Radio Pakistan, during the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal reviewed the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) report on the non-conformance of Banaspati ghee, edible oils, and milk products with prescribed quality standards. The Minister directed the relevant authorities to develop a coordinated quality-control mechanism with the Provincial Food Authorities and establish a clear mechanism for addressing violations.
Additionally, he discussed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) report on the disparity between notified LPG rates and market prices. He instructed the Minister for Petroleum to address the matter and directed the Ministry of Petroleum to formulate clear guidelines in coordination with OGRA.
Ahsan Iqbal further mandated that the Ministry of Petroleum and OGRA convene a meeting to resolve the issue within three days.
