AI Governance Must Be Anchored in Legitimacy of UN Systems: Asif

New york: Minister for Defence Khwaja Muhammad Asif emphasized the necessity of anchoring Artificial Intelligence governance in the legitimacy of United Nations systems during his address at the UN Security Council High-Level Open Debate on Artificial Intelligence and International Peace and Security. He underscored the importance of harnessing AI to foster peace and development globally.

According to Radio Pakistan, Khwaja Asif expressed Pakistan’s support for the establishment of the Annual Dialogue on AI governance and the International Scientific Panel. He advocated for state commitments to measures that prevent destabilizing use of AI and encourage pre-emptive incentives.

The Minister highlighted the need for the UN Charter and international law to fully govern AI application development and usage. He stressed the importance of providing developing countries with the capacity, access, and voice necessary to shape AI governance effectively.
