AI-Powered Future: Pakistan Outlines Comprehensive Plan for Artificial Intelligence Integration

Islamabad: The Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives convened a meeting of the National AI Taskforce, chaired by Minister Ahsan Iqbal, to discuss the AI Implementation Roadmap aimed at transforming various sectors and boosting national development. The strategic initiative, developed in collaboration with the National Center of Artificial Intelligence, seeks to enhance productivity, drive innovation, and improve global competitiveness for Pakistan.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the meeting gathered top government officials, industry leaders, and experts to deliberate on the roadmap. Minister Iqbal emphasized the importance of Artificial Intelligence in driving economic growth and competitiveness, commending the NCAI for its role in creating a robust AI ecosystem in Pakistan. The initiative aims to integrate AI technologies across sectors such as judiciary, healthcare, manufacturing, education, energy, and defense.

Minister Iqbal highlighted the Uraan Pakistan initiative, which aims to leverage AI for export growth, sustainable development, and social justice. The AI Implementation Plan, based on taskforce recommendations, focuses on AI education, skill development, and research, with programs to promote AI literacy and vocational training.

The plan includes the establishment of the National AI Office to oversee AI governance and the creation of AI Liaison Offices for localized implementation. Immediate milestones involve a three-month action plan with sector-specific workshops to integrate AI into agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, and more.

The Ministry of Information Technology and provincial governments will support these initiatives with infrastructure and technical assistance. Minister Iqbal stressed the need for collaboration across government and private sectors, emphasizing the social, ethical, and environmental impacts of AI.

Global partnerships will be pursued for knowledge exchange and alignment with international best practices. AI tech parks will support startups, fostering AI solution commercialization. The focus will be on developing AI infrastructure, cultivating a skilled workforce, and deploying AI solutions to drive economic opportunities and sustainable national development, in line with the Uraan Pakistan initiative.
