KARACHI: Karachi’s Additional Inspector General of Police, Javed Alam Odho, highlighted a lack of coordination between law enforcement and the business community as a key issue affecting law and order, particularly in District East. He called for joint efforts to address these challenges during a recent meeting with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
According to a statement by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AIGP Odho noted that while Karachi continues to face security challenges, there has been a gradual improvement in the law-and-order situation. Despite the city’s population of over 25 million and significant vehicle registration rates, crime has decreased by 24 percent, with notable reductions in mobile phone snatchings and motorcycle thefts compared to last year.
The meeting, which included prominent figures from KCCI and various commercial markets, addressed concerns raised by the business community. AIGP Odho assured attendees that senior police officials would be dispatched to KCCI to tackle pressing traffic and security issues, ensuring solutions align with community needs.
AIGP Odho emphasized the police’s commitment to accountability and collaboration with Karachi’s citizens and business leaders. He announced that the DIG Admin would serve as a focal point for addressing business-related concerns.
Updates on Karachi’s Safe City Project revealed that additional CCTV cameras and security measures are underway, with Rs6 billion already allocated. Efforts to improve traffic management and address kidnapping cases using modern technology were also discussed.
KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani praised the police’s progress in improving security and offered suggestions for further reforms. He urged action against aerial firing incidents and stressed the importance of advancing the Safe City Project and optimizing traffic flow to support business operations.
Bilwani reaffirmed KCCI’s support for initiatives promoting peace and economic growth, calling for continued trust-building and cooperation between the business community and law enforcement.
