Islamabad: Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed for strict enforcement of the Axle Load Control Regime to protect road infrastructure from damage caused by overloading. Chairing a meeting in Islamabad today, he directed amendments to the National Highway Authority’s legal framework within one week to remove hurdles to the implementation of the regime.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister made it mandatory for all freight vehicles to pass through weigh stations and directed complete automation of the system to reduce delays and ensure transparency. He said fines would be imposed on both vehicle owners and factories involved in overloading.
Abdul Aleem Khan also directed the establishment of weigh stations on GT Roads and the installation of modern cameras and AI-based systems on motorways to identify violations.
