All LPG Shops should be legalized because millions of people depend on it for their livelihood

Karachi, August 17, 2018 (PPI-OT):Poor LPG consumers received 1st gift of new Pakistan. LPG prices increased unreasonably by Rs. 15/kg, Rs. 177/Domestic Cylinder and Rs. 681/Commercial Cylinder. Local LPG producer have become Gas Mafia. 95% locally produced LPG is being sold at imported rates due to lack of import. Prices increased without any notification from OGRA, more increase is expected. LPG local producers have failed the Govt. LPG Policy 2016 promise of domestic cylinder at Rs. 895 and per kilogram LPG at Rs. 75.

LPG Distributors Association Pakistan demands to set local producer price at Rs. 30000/MT as was decided in LPG Policy 2016. Shortage of 13000MT per month have been created due to seizure of JJVL which costs Rs. 2430 million to Govt. and SSGC and Rs. 472 million against taxes. LPG Distributors Association Pakistan demands to resume JJVL at all cost to eliminate the gap. Poor LPG consumers are bearing the excessive margins which are being charged by Gas Mafia.

We appreciate OGRA decision to end Jagga Tax of Premium Bonus and Signature Bonus. Total local LPG production should be divided among all LPG Marketing Companies on merit basis and condition to add 50% imported LPG in locally produced LPG and then giving one rate for LPG consumers should be imposed. It is important to control LPG mafia now.

LPG Distributors Association Pakistan will protest against LPG price hike on 30 August, 2018. If LPG prices do not get controlled, LPG Distributors will go on strike and all business activities will be stopped from Khyber to Karachi on 5 September, 2018. LPG Distributors also demand the dismissal of Assistant Commissioner Sharaqpur due to false FIR against Irfan Khokhar under FIR No. 336/18.
