All-out rescue efforts underway in flood-hit parts: Minister

Islamabad, July 21, 2015 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Climate Change, Senator Mushahidullah Khan has expressed his deep grief and sorrow over loss of lives and damages to crops and public properties. “The federal government is with the aggrieved families, affected by recent devastating floods in country’s north, particularly Chitral, which have been triggered by heavy rains and aggravated further by increased glacial melt. The government will also compensate economic losses faced by the flood-hit families,” the minister said in a news statement issued here on Tuesday.

He said that prime minister is closely monitoring the flood situation and has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and federal departments concerned to take all possible measures to rescue the affected families and provide them with every possible aid, particularly clean drinking water, food and health and safe sanitation facilities to avoid deaths from diseases and hunger.

“The personnel of the NDMA and PDMAs have already become active and doing taking all measures to move families in flood-hit areas in Chitral, Skardu and different Punjab districts to safer areas and providing them with food, water and medicines,” Mushahidullah Khan added.

He said that directives have also been issued to the rescue personnel to assign priority to the shifting families trapped in flood-hit areas and ensure provision of clean drinking water at all costs. Relevant authorities have also been directed to the government authorities in areas affected by floods to compile damage reports so that people are compensated in a timely manner to return to their normal socio-economic lives.
