Analyst Hails PM Shehbaz’s Vision to Modernize Customs System with AI

Islamabad: Dr. Usman Chohan, an economist, has expressed strong support for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s initiative to modernize the customs system using artificial intelligence. He emphasized that integrating technology into key economic areas is crucial for generating revenue and creating job opportunities. This modernization effort is also expected to reduce the current account and fiscal deficits.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. Chohan highlighted that AI’s potential extends beyond the customs system, offering benefits to other sectors of the economy. He noted two additional areas of positive development, mentioning the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) satisfaction with Pakistan’s economic progress over the past year and a half. This approval is significant as an IMF delegation is scheduled to visit Pakistan in September for an assessment of the implementation of reforms. Dr. Chohan commended the government for its effective handling of the IMF reforms program.

Furthermore, Dr. Chohan pointed ou
t that credit rating agencies such as Fitch, Moody’s, and S and P have upgraded Pakistan’s sovereign debt rating, reflecting international recognition of the country’s economic and fiscal improvements. The Pakistan Stock Market’s upward trend is also attracting international investors to the country’s equities. In addition, there are positive discussions taking place regarding the NFC Award, which are leaving a favorable impression on economic managers. Dr. Chohan emphasized the importance of encouraging overseas Pakistanis to invest in the country.
