APHC Seeks UN Intervention for Resolution of Kashmir Dispute

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called upon the United Nations and the international community to urgently intervene in the Kashmir dispute, advocating for a resolution in line with UN resolutions that uphold the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a meeting in Srinagar, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas and other leaders appealed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to actively engage in facilitating a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The APHC leaders outlined the severe impacts of the Indian government’s policies on the Kashmiri population, including military actions and legal measures that they argue suppress fundamental freedoms and political expression.

The meeting highlighted the need for the UN to pressure India to withdraw its military presence, repeal laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Public Safety Act (PSA), and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), which the APHC views as oppressive. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continuing their political struggle and called for the cessation of what they term military and police terrorism by India.

Furthermore, the APHC criticized the expansion of military infrastructure and the crackdown on dissent within Kashmir, urging the UN to recognize and address these issues as part of the broader Kashmir dispute.
