Aurangzeb Terms Role of IT Vital for Development

Davos: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has termed the role of information technology as vital for the development and stability of Pakistan. He was speaking at the high-level discussion on the role of new technologies in promoting trade and investment at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to Radio Pakistan, Aurangzeb emphasized the government’s commitment to providing a robust ecosystem, strong infrastructure, bandwidth, banking options, a solid policy framework, and continuity of policies in the IT sector. He stated that these elements are top priorities for the government as they seek to foster growth and stability through technological advancement.

Aurangzeb highlighted that Pakistan is the first country to implement the digital FDI initiative, which reflects the country’s proactive approach to embracing digital transformation. He stressed the importance of ensuring the horizontal expansion of IT to fully leverage its benefits.

The Minister also pointed out that Pakistan is fortunate to have the third-largest population of freelancers, which positions the country uniquely in the global IT landscape. He noted that Pakistan’s monthly IT exports reached a record high of 384 million dollars in December, showcasing the industry’s potential.

Aurangzeb expressed the government’s dedication to strengthening the IT sector with the support and cooperation of the Digital Corporation Organization (DCO). He underscored plans to operationalize Special Technology Zones and emphasized that the private sector will be made the leader in driving the country’s economic development.
