Balochistan Enhances Birth Registration Efforts to Safeguard Children’s Rights

Quetta: In a concerted effort to bolster children’s rights, the Balochistan Local Government, headed by Secretary Abdul Rauf Baloch, is intensifying birth registration across the province. An important meeting was held to discuss strategic measures to increase registration at the grassroots level, ensuring that every child’s birth is officially documented.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the meeting underscored that birth, marriage, divorce, and death registrations are constitutional mandates under the Balochistan Local Government Act of 2010 and 2020, with a standard fee of Rs 100 for late registrations. Secretary Baloch emphasized that having an official birth record is crucial for accessing other legal documents, including identity cards, and is a fundamental right of every child.

The strategy includes registering births through Basic Health Units (BHUs) and schools to facilitate the process for parents and ensure that all children receive their legal documents timely. The government is collaborating with NADRA to integrate complete digital data for seamless service delivery. Additionally, Secretary Baloch announced plans to waive the registration fees and extend the period for free registrations to aid families, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
