Benazir Income Support Programme Renews Partnership with UN WFP to Combat Malnutrition in Pakistan

Islamabad: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) have renewed their collaborative efforts under the Benazir Nashonuma Programme for an additional two years. This extension aims to combat malnutrition in Pakistan, particularly stunting in children under five, by providing enhanced cash support to affected families.

According to Press Information Department, the agreement was formalized at a ceremony at BISP Headquarters with key figures including BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid and WFP Country Director Ms. Coco Ushiyama present. The programme targets pregnant and lactating women and their young children with increased financial aid: PKR 2,500 per quarter for boys and PKR 3,000 for girls. This initiative is a continuation of the government’s commitment to address malnutrition and enhance child health across Pakistan.

The renewed partnership, which was originally signed in Rome by WFP’s Assistant Executive Director for Partnerships and Innovation and the Secretary of BISP, aims to expand its reach to 157 districts and include 562 facilitation centers. With this expansion, the program intends to increase its effectiveness and quality of implementation over the next two years, concluding in June 2026.
