Karachi: Bestway Cement Limited has been recognized for its environmental initiatives by receiving the 22nd Annual Environment Excellence Award 2025 from the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH). The award acknowledges the company’s commitment to eco-friendly practices across its five plants in Hattar, Farooqia, Chakwal, Kallar Kahar, and Mianwali.
Bestway Cement emphasizes the well-being of its employees and communities as part of its sustainable approach. The company has fully operationalized solar power plants at all sites, with a combined capacity of 110 MW. This initiative has significantly reduced reliance on the national grid and decreased the carbon footprint, equating to the planting of approximately 9 million trees and offsetting over 5.6 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The company also announced its achievement of ISO 14064-1:2018 certification for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions from TUV Austria Bureau of Inspection and Certification (BIC). This certification validates the GHG emission inventories at all its production facilities, setting a benchmark in sustainable development.
In water conservation, Bestway Cement has replaced traditional systems with Air-Cooled Condenser technology and constructed rainwater harvesting reservoirs, reducing dependence on underground water.
The company pioneered Pakistan’s first Waste Heat Recovery Power Plant (WHRPP) with an investment of US $47 million. All its plants now operate WHRPP systems, easing the load on the national grid and enhancing energy efficiency.
Bestway Cement plants are certified under the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System, meeting and exceeding standards set by the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency and global bodies. The company has an Environment Department to ensure compliance with environmental standards and practices.
