Bihar Assembly Erupts Over Waqf Amendment Bill

Patna: The Bihar assembly was engulfed in chaos as opposition members demanded the withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Bill, a legislative proposal introduced by New Delhi. The situation escalated when members stormed the well of the House, leading to an abrupt adjournment of proceedings.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the opposition also called on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to clarify his position on the bill, which has become a contentious issue. Despite repeated efforts by Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav to restore order, he was compelled to adjourn the session, citing that the matter was not within the state’s jurisdiction.

Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition, later voiced his support for the members’ actions, aligning himself with their demands concerning the Waqf Amendment Bill. The bill has sparked widespread debate, with critics asserting that it could exacerbate the Hindu-Muslim divide and pose a threat to cultural diversity. The unrest in the Bihar assembly underscores the growing apprehension surrounding this issue.
