Karachi: In an effort to improve the transparency and efficiency of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid announced the inclusion of six additional banks into the program’s payment network. This strategic move aims to dismantle the so-called agent mafia and diversify the financial institutions involved in disbursing funds to millions of beneficiaries. The announcement was made during her visit to the Benazir Nashonuma Center at Sindh Government Hospital PIB Colony.

According to Press Information Department, Senator Khalid inspected the facilities and interacted with beneficiaries, praising the Sindh Health Department for its role in facilitating the program. She highlighted BISP’s comprehensive approach to combating child stunting by providing cash and nutritional support to mothers, with the program currently aiding 9.3 million families and aiming to expand to 10 million by 2025.

Senator Khalid addressed misconceptions regarding dependency, articulating that BISP is a globally recognized initiative aimed at eradicating poverty and empowering women through sustainable financial support. She emphasized the importance of the program’s independent third-party monitoring and announced a significant increase in the installment amount for beneficiaries, from Rs. 10,500 to Rs. 13,500.
