Chairman NDMA Highlights Climate Change Impacts at RCC Forum in Bangkok

Bangkok: National Disaster Management Authority Pakistan’s delegation, headed by Chairman NDMA Lt. Gen Inam Haider Malk HM(I), participated in the 18th meeting of the Regional Consultative Committee in Bangkok, Thailand today. The two-day RCC meeting is being co-hosted by the Government of Thailand and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Regional Consultative Committee serves as a regional forum to promote consultation and cooperation in reducing disaster and climate change risk in the Asia and Pacific region. Chairman NDMA Lt. Gen Inam Haider Malk HM(I) participated as a keynote speaker in the technical session on Financial Mechanisms and Investments – Climate Finance, Investment for Resilience Building, and Disaster Risk Finance today.

In his keynote speech, the chairman highlighted the impacts of climate change in the Asia-Pacific Region and in Pakistan, including rising temperatures, extreme weather, and water-related crises threatening socio-economic development progress in the region. He stressed the need for developing appropriate financial mechanisms to provide the required financial resources to the most affected countries in dealing with the impacts of climate change through Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA).
