ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has highlighted the increasing significance of parliament and parliamentarians in addressing global challenges such as climate change, sustainable development, and socio-economic disparities. Speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural session of the 10th Annual National Parliamentary Development Course at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) in Islamabad, Gilani emphasized the critical role of parliamentary work in steering the country towards its strategic national and international interests.
According to Senate of Pakistan, Gilani underscored that members of Parliament, as people’s representatives, are entrusted by the Constitution with the responsibility to empathize with the masses. He noted that parliamentary work has evolved into a specialized service that requires proficient support from officers skilled in cross-disciplinary concepts and practices. Gilani urged the participants of the course to take pride in their responsibility to serve and provide technical assistance to elected representatives, highlighting their crucial role in guiding the nation’s progress towards a secure and prosperous future.
The Chairman Senate encouraged participants to fully utilize the comprehensive training program aimed at enhancing understanding of the Constitution, Parliamentary Rules of Procedure, and Government Rules of Business 1973. He praised the PIPS administration and team for their role in equipping parliamentary officers with relevant knowledge. Concluding his address, Gilani expressed best wishes to the course participants, hoping they would leverage this opportunity to become professionals par excellence, offering quality services to parliamentary institutions.
A diverse group of mid-career officers from the federal parliament, provincial assemblies, as well as Legislative Assemblies of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, are participating in the course.
