Chemical Industry Key to Pakistan’s Economic Growth, Says Ahsan Iqbal

Lahore: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the significant role the chemical industry can play in economic growth, export promotion, industrial innovation, and job creation in Pakistan. He made these remarks while addressing the Pakistan Chemical Expo 2026 held in Lahore.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the necessity for the country to adopt a development model centered on knowledge, research, technology, and industry to transform into a robust export-oriented economy. He outlined the critical nature of the chemical industry, describing it as the ‘mother of all industries.’ This industry forms the foundation for various sectors, including agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, construction, automobiles, electronics, and energy.

The Minister also pointed out that Pakistan currently imports chemicals, polymers, and industrial raw materials worth billions of dollars annually, many of which have the potential to be produced domestically. This presents a substantial opportunity for local production and economic growth, reducing dependency on imports and fostering self-sufficiency.
