Climate Ministry Initiates $4.4 Million Project to Enhance Water Quality Monitoring System.

Baku: The Ministry for Climate Change has embarked on a $4.4 million project aimed at enhancing the water quality monitoring system, in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency. This initiative was announced by Romina Khurshid Alam, Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, during an event on the sidelines of the COP29 Global Climate Summit in Baku.

According to Radio Pakistan, the project will be implemented in Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, directly benefiting over sixty-two million people. A major component of the project involves substantial upgrades to water-quality testing laboratories, which includes acquiring and installing advanced laboratory equipment to ensure precise and efficient monitoring.

Romina Khurshid Alam emphasized the gravity of the water crisis in Pakistan, highlighting that approximately 44% of the population does not have access to safe drinking water. This project represents a significant step towards addressing this challenge and improving th
e overall water quality infrastructure in the affected regions. The collaboration with Korea International Cooperation Agency is expected to bring in technical expertise and resources necessary for the successful execution of the project.
