Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced a major plan to conserve the depleting underground water level in the province. Chairing a special video link meeting in Lahore today, she detailed the comprehensive strategy aimed at tackling the urgent issue of water conservation.
According to Radio Pakistan, the plan includes the establishment of a network of three hundred and fifty-eight underground storage tanks designed for prompt water and sewerage drainage. In an effort to enhance the effectiveness of these storage solutions, rechargeable wells will be constructed alongside the underground water tanks.
The Chief Minister highlighted the construction of thirty-four large underground storage water tanks specifically for the drainage of rainwater in urban areas. Additionally, she announced the restoration of sixty-one disposal stations and the construction of fifty-six new ones to further improve water management in the province.
In a bid to address wastewater treatment, 328 wastewater treatment plants are slated for development across Punjab. Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of completing these water drainage projects before the upcoming monsoon season to ensure the province is well-prepared for potential heavy rainfall.
