Coastline and Marine Ecosystems Crucial for Migratory Birds: Junaid

Islamabad: Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry emphasized the importance of coastlines and marine ecosystems for the survival of hundreds of migratory bird species. He stated that these natural habitats are critical for maintaining global biodiversity and supporting local fisheries and communities.

According to Radio Pakistan, in a message commemorating World Migratory Bird Day, Minister Chaudhry highlighted the need for enhanced national and regional cooperation to safeguard coastal habitats. These areas serve as essential stopovers for birds journeying across continents. He noted that domestic coastal tourism contributes approximately 300 million dollars annually, which is about 0.1 percent of the GDP.

Minister Chaudhry expressed a desire to boost the economy by integrating tourism with the wetland ecosystem. He also called for intensified conservation efforts and sustainable management practices to ensure that these vital ecosystems are preserved for future generations.
