Communal Violence Erupts in Tripura, Mosques and Shops Targeted

Agartala: In a surge of communal violence in Tripura, Hindu extremists have reportedly vandalized several Muslim-owned properties, including a mosque, in the Kadamtala district. The incidents of vandalism followed attempts by these groups to forcibly collect donations from Muslim shopkeepers for Dargah Puja, leading to significant tensions and violence in the area.

According to Kashmir Media Service, when local Muslim shopkeepers refused to pay the demanded donations, extremists responded by ransacking a mosque and several shops. The situation escalated rapidly, prompting police intervention. During attempts to control the violence, police opened fire, resulting in one fatality and injuries to at least 17 individuals.

The area remains tense as authorities struggle to restore order. Congress MLA, Roy Burman, voiced concerns that Muslim shopkeepers were being coerced into making donations, suggesting that certain elements are attempting to fuel communal unrest. Additionally, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) issued a statement implicating two ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in inciting the violence and accused them of using social media to target minority communities.

The local government and law enforcement agencies are currently working to stabilize the situation and prevent further outbreaks of violence.
