New Delhi: An indefinite curfew has been imposed across Manipur’s Jiribam district following the killing of 10 Kuki Christians by the Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jakuradhor village, under Borobekra police jurisdiction.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident, which reportedly took place around 3 p.m., has sparked widespread outrage, with the Kuki-Zo Council and other tribal organizations condemning the killings as “fake encounters” targeting local village volunteers.
The Kuki-Zo Council claimed that 11 of their members were killed by CRPF personnel. In response, the tribal group announced a complete shutdown across Manipur from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased. The Hmar Students Association echoed these sentiments, condemning the killings and alleging involvement of “Central, Manipur state-supported forces and Meitei militants.”
The tribal groups have refuted the police’s claims that the slain Kukis were “attackers,” asserting that the deceased were unarmed volunteers.
Local officials also reported the disappearance of five people from a nearby relief camp situated on the police station’s premises, believed to have been killed in custody.
The incident has intensified existing ethnic tensions in the state, with tribal leaders calling for an independent state as a permanent solution to their problems.
