Death Anniversary of Folk Singer Alam Lohar Observed

Lahore: The forty-sixth death anniversary of the folk singer Alam Lohar was observed on Thursday. Born in 1928 in a village near Gujrat, Alam Lohar was known for his soulful renditions of Waris Shah’s Heer, which he had memorized in different styles and variations.

According to Radio Pakistan, Alam Lohar started his career as a child artist with Radio Pakistan. He recorded his first album at the age of thirteen and became one of Pakistan’s most successful singers of the 1970s.

Alam Lohar was also honoured with Pride of Performance Award in 1979. He tragically lost his life in a road accident on this day in 1979 in Lahore and was laid to rest in Lalamusa.
