Death Anniversary of Urdu Poet Munawar Jameel Observed

Bahawalpur: Renowned Urdu poet and broadcaster Munawar Jameel’s fourth death anniversary was observed on Friday. Jameel was celebrated for his significant contributions to Urdu literature and broadcasting.

According to Radio Pakistan, Munawar Jameel held the distinction of being the first Urdu news reader for Radio Pakistan in Bahawalpur. He made history by reading the Urdu news on the station’s inauguration day on August 18, 1975. Beyond his role as a news reader, Jameel was a prolific writer, having penned many Urdu plays for Radio Pakistan. He also served as the editor of the station’s fortnightly Urdu literary programme ‘Nakhlistan’ for many decades.

Jameel’s literary contributions include his poetry book ‘Dekho Ye Meray Zakham Hain’ and the publication of the literary magazine ‘Saiban.’ He was instrumental in promoting literary and arts activities in South Punjab through his organization, ‘Qalam Qabila.’ Over the past forty years, Jameel organized numerous literary and cultural events in Bahawalpur, enriching the region’s cultural landscape.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire many in the field of Urdu literature and broadcasting.
