Death Anniversary of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Observed

Faisalabad: The 28th death anniversary of legendary singer and Qawwal Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was observed on Saturday. Born in Faisalabad on 13th October, 1948, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was the pioneer of fusion music in Pakistan. He was the first musician to blend Eastern and Western musical styles, introducing Qawwali to a global audience.

According to Radio Pakistan, his name is included in the Guinness Book of World Records for most albums by a Qawwali artist, with a total of 125 albums. The Government of Pakistan conferred on him the Pride of Performance award in 1987 for his remarkable contribution to Pakistani music. He was also honoured with the prestigious UNESCO music prize.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan died on this day in 1997.
