Demos in Nowhatta against thrashing of a driver by police

Srinagar, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, protests erupted in Nowhatta area of Srinagar after the Indian police thrashed an auto-rickshaw driver without any reason. The auto-rickshaw driver, Mushtaq Chopan, was thrashed by the police near Makhdoom Sahib (RA) shrine without any provocation. Infuriated by the incident, hundreds of people took to streets and staged protests.

“Some policemen from Nowhatta Police Station stopped my load-carrier and demanded money from me. When I refused, the policemen thrashed me and smashed windscreen of my vehicle,” Mushtaq told mediamen while showing his injured hand.
