Deputy PM Defends Government’s Handling of Islamabad Protest

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has asserted that the government exhibited complete patience during a political party’s protest in Islamabad on November 24.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dar briefed foreign diplomats at the Foreign Office in Islamabad, clarifying that law enforcement agencies were equipped with water cannons, tear gas, and batons, rather than live ammunition, to handle the situation.

Dar further explained that the Army was summoned in accordance with the constitution and was stationed as the third line of defense to safeguard diplomatic missions and federal institutions, including the Parliament House, the Prime Minister’s House, and the Presidency. He expressed regret over the use of resources by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in the protest, emphasizing that no federating unit has the right to march on the capital.

Ensuring the Red Zone remains free from protests and violence has been a government priority, Dar noted, pointing out that a special law was enacted earlier this year to secure the safety of diplomats. He also remarked on the timing of the protest, highlighting that it was surprising that this particular party chose to demonstrate during the visit of foreign delegates.
