Deputy PM Urges Developed Nations to Fulfill Climate Finance Pledges.

BAKU: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called on developed nations to honor their climate finance pledges and provide accessible, grants-based financing to help developing countries achieve their climate goals. Speaking at a high-level event convened by the UN Secretary-General on ‘Delivering Early Warnings for All and Addressing Extreme Heat’ at COP 29 in Baku, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding lives and protecting communities from the impacts of climate change.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dar highlighted the importance of early warning systems for climate-induced hazards, including floods, glacial lake outbursts, droughts, and extreme heat. He stressed that these systems are crucial for mitigating the unpredictable and severe impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities.

Dar also outlined Pakistan’s initiatives to reduce projected greenhouse gas emissions. These include the Green Pakistan Project, the implementation of an Electric Vehicle Policy, a large-scale mangrove rehabilitation project, and the development of BRT mass transit systems across major cities. These initiatives are part of Pakistan’s strategy to address climate change proactively and sustainably.
