DPM Urges Stronger UN-OIC Cooperation

New york: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the critical nature of cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He stated that this collaboration is essential and not merely a diplomatic formality.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dar was speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council focused on strengthening cooperation between the UN and the OIC. He highlighted that the cooperation is rooted in Chapter VIII of the UN Charter, which underscores the importance of regional arrangements in aiding the Security Council’s primary role in maintaining global peace and security.

Dar noted that the OIC acts as a crucial link, integrating global and regional efforts and aligning political and humanitarian priorities. He emphasized that the OIC has consistently been a vital partner for the United Nations and is committed to the UN Charter’s objectives and principles.

Furthermore, he addressed the issue of UN Security Council reform, stating that OIC Member States advocate for adequate representation in any expanded category of the Security Council, reflecting the OIC’s established stance on the matter.
