ECC Greenlights 40,000MT Sugar Export to Tajikistan, Approves Funds for Women’s Facilities in Tribal Areas

Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the export of 40,000 metric tons of sugar to Tajikistan in a move aimed at enhancing trade relations and supporting surplus sugar exports. The decision was part of a broader agenda during the ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, which also included the approval of substantial funds for developing women’s facilities in tribal districts.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the ECC convened in Islamabad on Friday under the leadership of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The session also sanctioned the export of an additional 0.100 million metric tons of surplus sugar. Moreover, the committee endorsed a Technical Supplementary Grant valued at 456.600 million rupees designated for the construction of eight women’s facilities across tribal areas.

In his opening remarks, Finance Minister Aurangzeb provided an overview of the country’s current economic landscape, highlighting the stability of the national currency and a peak in foreign exchange reserves not seen in over two years, bolstered by robust and continuous remittances. He further noted that IT exports have stabilized at approximately 300 million dollars monthly, a positive sign for the export sector.

Aurangzeb expressed optimism about the country’s inflation rate, which has recently dropped to a single-digit figure. He anticipates further decline following the release of September’s data. The finance minister also remarked on the current account situation, which saw a surplus of 75 million dollars in August, describing it as encouraging and hopeful for sustained economic stability.

Furthermore, Aurangzeb mentioned the upcoming IMF Board meeting scheduled for the 25th, expressing confidence that the combined efforts of the Prime Minister, bilateral partners, local teams, and administrative bodies would yield favorable outcomes and propel the nation forward.
