ECC Tasks PASSCO with Wheat Allocation Management

Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has tasked the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) with the responsibility of managing the allocation and distribution of both domestic and imported wheat stocks. This directive aims to ensure a systematic release and utilization of wheat resources until the complete disposal of imported wheat stock.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the decision was made during a meeting held in Islamabad with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presiding. The meeting addressed a proposal concerning the distribution of PASSCO’s wheat stocks among wheat-deficient agencies and regions for the Food Year 2024-25.

The ECC has mandated that all seven wheat-deficient agencies and regions are to receive wheat based on their projected demands for the Food Year 2024-25. It emphasized the necessity for all wheat collections by these entities to be tested for quality and fitness for consumption prior to distribution.

Furthermore, the ECC approved a substantial financial package, totaling over thirty-five billion rupees, as a technical supplementary grant aimed at various ministries and departments. This includes significant funding for the “Flood Response Emergency Housing Project” and other critical governmental functions such as the maintenance of VVIP aircraft and the improvement of e-Passport personalization systems.

The session concluded with an approval of 376 million rupees for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to support its expenditures under the Recovery and Reward Rules, reflecting the ECC’s broad agenda to enhance governance and service delivery across multiple fronts.
