Efforts to Enhance Pakistani Port Facilities Gain Momentum

ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, announced ongoing efforts to upgrade port facilities in Pakistan, aiming to attract international trade and bolster economic growth.

According to Radio Pakistan, during a media briefing in Islamabad, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh highlighted the significant interest shown by leading global port companies in Pakistani ports due to their capacity to handle large vessels. He noted that nations such as the Central Asian States and Russia are eyeing Pakistani ports for the transit of goods, attracted by lower freight costs.

The Minister also revealed the government’s strategic decision to channel sixty percent of public sector imports through the Gwadar Port. This move is expected to stimulate job creation in Balochistan, enhancing economic opportunities for the local population. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to developing the maritime sector and positioning Pakistan as a key player in regional trade logistics.
