Either to serve occupier or stand with Kashmiris’ freedom, Inayatullah Andrabi to National Conference

Islamabad, August 23, 2020 (PPI-OT): Syed Inayatullah Andrabi, a Kashmiri intellectual presently based in London, has said that so-called Kashmiri mainstream political parties are left with only two options – either to serve the interests of the occupier power, India or stand with the Kashmiris’ honour, dignity and freedom.

Syed Inayatullah Andrabi, elaborating his point in his latest tweets, said that National Conference starting to reactivate its politics is a significant thing to happen post Aug 5, 2019. He said that with no political space left to move forward, the party has to make a lifetime choice, more serious than merely existential, between two options.

He pointed out that the one option is that the National Conference can re-invent itself learning from over 70 years of its interaction with India including the post August, 2019 experiences, and decide to stand with the honour, dignity and freedom of Kashmir.

The second choice, Dr Inayatullah added, is that the NC can simply keep going on as it has been – a party in the Indian political mainstream – not questioning the legitimacy, if ever there was any, of Kashmir’s relationship with India post August 5, thus serving the interests of the occupier power, India.

He said that the choice is more serious and consequential for NC than merely existential, for it will determine once for all if the party is a genuine political formation or a foreign stooge. The first option, he said, if taken, will demonstrate NC’s sense of history and will to survive.

The Kashmiri intellectual maintained that re-inventing is a purposeful political engineering which all genuine political entities everywhere keep doing as and when needed, adding it is done to remain relevant in the changed circumstances and continue constructive engagement with the people with a view to secure a better future for them.

Dr Inayatullah pointed out that the second option will only go to decisively establish once for all that NC is a bunch of mercenaries with no vision of its own, ever ready to serve the interests of India in Kashmir. He stressed that with a changed world as of 2020, it will not create a long-term harmful impact on Kashmir where India’s defeat is absolutely certain, but will definitely prove suicidal for the National Conference itself.
