Election Commission of Pakistan Urges Lawmakers to Submit Asset Statements by Year-End.

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has called on Members of Parliament and Provincial Assemblies to submit their yearly Statements of Assets and Liabilities by December 31, 2024. These statements must include information on their spouses and dependent children, as of June 30, 2023, using Form-B for the financial year 2023-24. This requirement is mandated under Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017.

According to Press Information Department, Section 137 specifies that every Member of an Assembly and Senate must submit their asset statements by the end of the year. Failure to do so will result in the Election Commission publishing the names of non-compliant members on January 1. Members who do not comply by January 15 face suspension until they submit the required statements. Additionally, if a member submits a statement found to be materially false, they may face proceedings for corrupt practices within 120 days of submission.

Form-B, along with instructions and guidelines, is available free of charge from the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad, as well as from Provincial Election Commissioners’ offices, Senate Secretariat, National Assembly Secretariat, and concerned Provincial Assemblies’ secretariats. The form can also be downloaded from the Election Commission of Pakistan’s website at www.ecp.gov.pk.
