Islamabad, September 11, 2014 (PPI-OT): On the directives of Federal Minister for Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS and R) Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, an Emergency Flood Response Cell has been created in the ministry under Additional Secretary to liaise and coordinate with the provincial governments to ascertain the extent of damage caused to the various crops, livestock and food storage facilities in the wake of recent floods.
It is apprehended that crops on wider areas have been damaged causing reduction in estimated production of valuable crops such as rice, sugarcane and cotton. The coordination with provincial governments will help the Federal Government to determine the exact loss to the agriculture sector caused by torrential rain and floods.
