European Union donate equipments to University of Peshawar

Peshawar, June 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): The European Union handed over equipments to University of Peshawar which includes twenty five Laptops, Ten UPS, thirty four 3G Internet Modem, Photocopier machines, printers etc. The equipment was handed over in a ceremony held at University of Peshawar. Ambassador and Head Delegation of EU Lars Gunnar Wigemark presented the donation to Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan.

Deputy Head of Delegation Pierre Mayaudon and Counselor Berend de Groot were also present on the occasion.

The donation has been given as per set tradition by the European Union, as whenever a EU election observation Mission ( EOM) has completed its duties, all in-country procured equipments are donated to national institutions, said the Deputy Head of Delegation. He said around one hundred and ten observers came to Pakistan in the EU-EOM. The conduction process and transparency of election in 91% of the polling stations was satisfactory.

Investment in higher education in the key towards changing the fate of people of KP and FATA said the Vice Chancellor while talking to the delegation. He added that adequate funding to higher education institutions in Pakistan was integral to bring it at par with international standards. Referring to the prevailing situation the Vice Chancellor stated that people of FATA have remained underprivileged and it’s high time to bring their life up to a minimum standard so that their indigenous problems could be controlled.

The Vice Chancellor appreciated the generous donation from European Union delegation and said that partnerships with international organizations are what they were looking for. He termed quality education as the basic yard stick for curbing the menace of terrorism and uncertainty in the region.

Earlier Ambassador and Head Delegation of EU Lars Gunnar Wigemark informed the Vice Chancellor about various scholarship opportunities available for students of University of Peshawar in EU countries. He showed his resolve to work on joint partnership programmes and explore joint research projects among EU and Pakistani Universities.
