Experts Raise Concerns Over India’s Nuclear Security Failures

Karachi: Nuclear security experts have raised serious concerns about India’s persistent nuclear security failures and called on the International Atomic Energy Agency to investigate the growing number of radioactive material thefts and trafficking incidents in the country.

According to Radio Pakistan, over the past three decades, more than a dozen confirmed cases involving theft of uranium, Californium, and other radioactive substances have surfaced in India, exposing glaring loopholes in its nuclear safeguards.

The most recent case in Dehradun involved five individuals caught with a device stolen from the highly secure Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Similarly, three separate cases in 2021 involved the trafficking of a radioactive element Californium valued at over one hundred million dollars.
