Srinagar, April 28, 2013 (PPI-OT): The President of High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir, Zafar Qureshi has said that fake drugs are sold under branded names in the territory. The Bar President was speaking at a seminar, ‘Threat to life’ organised by the High Court Bar Association in Srinagar to deliberate the supply of fake drugs to the Valley hospitals.
Former President of the Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom, blaming corruption for the drug scam, said, “Non transparency, accountability, money and hegemony are the reasons for corruption taking place in our society and we are ourselves responsible for all this.”
Advocate Bashir Siddique said that the presence of spurious drugs was turning people into psychiatric patients. “Even after consuming drugs, people are not getting well,” he said, “Now doctors have to win back the confidence of patients.”
The President of Kashmir Private Diagnostic Centers, Umar Iqbal, said that it was shameful that spurious drugs were supplied in the territory. He said that in 2011 an FIR was lodged regarding the use of fake drugs but no action was taken.
Paediatrician, Dr Suhail, while speaking on the topic, said, “In private nursing home one neonatal death took place in three years but in GB Panth 517 deaths occur because of the use of spurious drugs.”
Others who spoke on the occasion were Advocate G N Shaheen, Shakeel Qalandar, Nazir Ahmed Ronga, Dr Asif Maqbool, Khursheed Ahmed and Professor Hameeda Nayeem.
