Srinagar: The president of the National Conference, Farooq Abdullah, has voiced his concerns about the safety of Muslims in India, asserting that they feel insecure in the current political environment.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Farooq Abdullah highlighted during a media interaction in Srinagar that under the Modi administration, over 240 million Muslims in India are being deprived of their fundamental rights. He stressed that Muslims, like all citizens, are entitled to equal treatment.
Abdullah stated that no community should be marginalized or made to feel insecure, and emphasized that the Indian Constitution guarantees equality for all religions and their followers. He condemned efforts to divide the Kashmiri people along religious lines, pledging that such attempts would not succeed. “We must resist sectarian forces and ensure they do not achieve their goals,” he remarked.
He also assured that the National Conference, led by his son Omar Abdullah, is committed to addressing the unjust dismissal of Kashmiri Muslim government employees by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s administration. “We will ensure justice for those wrongfully removed from their posts,” he added.
Abdullah’s comments come amid heightened concerns over minority rights and religious freedom in India, particularly for Muslims, following the Modi government’s controversial policies.
