Federal Cabinet Recommends 100-Day Sentence Remission for Prisoners

Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet has recommended to the President of Pakistan a remission of 100 days in the sentences of prisoners convicted of various crimes in honor of the blessed day of 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal.

According to Radio Pakistan, the cabinet proposed this remission under Article 45 of the Constitution and Special Remission Policy 2025. The recommendation is part of an initiative to provide relief to prisoners and acknowledge the significance of the religious occasion.

The proposed remission will apply to eligible prisoners, potentially reducing the overall prison population and aiding in the rehabilitation process. The decision awaits approval from the President, who holds the authority to grant such remissions under constitutional provisions.

This recommendation aligns with previous measures taken by the government to offer clemency on religious and national occasions, reflecting a commitment to humanitarian considerations within the justice system.
