Islamabad: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, met with the Ambassador of Vatican City, Archbishop Germano Penamonti. The meeting focused on addressing global religious intolerance, terrorism, sectarianism, and promoting interfaith harmony.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Minister Hussain commended Pope Francis for his stance on Palestine, highlighting his social and economic justice efforts. Hussain emphasized the vital role minorities play in Pakistan’s development and detailed government initiatives aimed at empowering them, including the National Commission for Minorities and the Interfaith Harmony Policy.
Ambassador Archbishop Penamonti acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts, noting ongoing educational and health projects by the Catholic Church in the country. He emphasized that promoting tolerance and acceptance can help eliminate extremism globally. The Archbishop extended an invitation to Minister Hussain for the upcoming global interfaith harmony conference in Vatican City in March.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to enhance cooperation to combat extremism and foster interfaith harmony.
