Karachi:
BF Biosciences Limited, a subsidiary of Ferozsons Laboratories Limited, has received approval from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) for its brownfield expansion, including the addition of pre-filled syringes, liquid and lyophilized lines, and a product development section, according to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). This expansion enables the commencement of commercial production of pre-filled syringes, while the liquid and lyophilized lines are set to begin production in the second quarter of FY 2024-25.
Additionally, BF Biosciences has introduced Sematide, a pioneering Glucagon-Like Peptide 1 receptor agonist, locally manufactured in pre-filled syringes, marking a significant development in the management of diabetes in Pakistan. This new offering is manufactured at the company’s cutting-edge European prefilled syringes line and is designed to minimize dosing errors and simplify usage for patients.
Pakistan, holding the highest rate of diabetes prevalence globally, faces an urgent need for effective treatment solutions. Approximately 8.9 million people with diabetes in the country are undiagnosed, and half of those diagnosed struggle with management, leading to a mortality rate of 29%. The launch of Sematide follows the introduction of Ferulin, a human insulin product, and represents a critical advancement in the company’s commitment to combatting diabetes at an affordable price.
Further bolstering its market position, BF Biosciences has also secured the approval for its listing on the PSX by both the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the PSX itself. This approval underscores the company’s ongoing dedication to addressing critical healthcare needs in the areas of Hepatitis C, cancer, cardiology, and other therapeutic fields, following over a decade of service as the first biotech plant in Pakistan.
