Finance Minister Stresses Climate-Smart Economic Planning

KARACHI: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the government’s commitment to incorporating climate factors into the national economic strategy, highlighting the need for a sustainable approach to growth. Speaking virtually at the third Pakistan Climate Conference, organized by the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Aurangzeb identified population growth and climate change as primary challenges.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Finance Minister noted that collaborative efforts between the Ministries of Finance, Climate, and Planning are essential to guide Pakistan towards resilience and sustainable development. He cited the success of Pakistan’s inaugural green Eurobond in 2021, which garnered $500 million, as evidence of the country’s potential to draw sustainable investments.

Aurangzeb reiterated the Finance Ministry’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to green investments. He outlined strategies involving fiscal reforms, regulatory support, and capacity building to attract both international and domestic investments in green projects, aiming to ensure a sustainable future for Pakistan.
