Flood Situation in Jhang Critical as 900,000 Cusecs Flow Passes Through Chenab River

Jhang: A flow of around nine hundred thousand cusecs is passing through the Chenab river in Jhang, creating a highly critical situation. Talking to the media in Lahore, the Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, highlighted the potential danger looming over the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, Kathia warned that a potentially dangerous situation could develop at Head Islam within the next few hours, as the flow has exceeded one hundred thousand cusecs at Head Sulaimanki. This situation underscores the gravity of the current flood threat in the area.

He further explained that the River Ravi had already experienced a discharge of two hundred twenty thousand cusecs, while at Head Balloki, two hundred eleven thousand cusecs were recorded. An additional twenty thousand cusecs came from Nankana Sahib, adding to the overall water volume.

The Director General emphasized that this combined flow would culminate in seven hundred thousand cusecs at Head Muhammadwala near Multan, where breaching may become necessary to manage the massive water pressure. This scenario presents a significant challenge for disaster management authorities as they work to mitigate the impact of the rising waters.
