Government Aims to Position Pakistan as Premier Business and Investment Destination

Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan is intensifying efforts to improve the Ease of Doing Business in the country to attract more foreign investment. This commitment was highlighted by Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, during his speech at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), where he served as the chief guest.

According to Press Information Department, Minister Khan outlined several initiatives aimed at simplifying business operations in Pakistan. Among these, the Pakistan Single Window project was introduced to consolidate various regulatory requirements under one platform, making it easier for investors to navigate the bureaucratic landscape. The minister emphasized the government’s dedication to reducing power tariffs for industries and exporters and noted the active role of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in addressing business community issues through a high-profile board.

The revision of the transshipment policy was also discussed as a strategy to boost regional trade and transform Pakistan into a business hub for Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East. This policy revision is expected to create jobs, increase foreign exchange, and spur economic development.

During the event, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President of ICCI, reflected on the achievements of the chamber under his leadership, stressing efforts to enhance the business environment and increase exports. Khalid Iqbal Malik, Chairman of the Founder Group at ICCI, praised Bakhtawari’s leadership, which positioned the ICCI as a leading chamber in the country.

Additionally, various speakers, including former ICCI President Zafar Bakhtawari and Zubair Ahmad Malik, emphasized the importance of recognizing business leaders’ contributions and called for government action on critical projects like the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline. The newly elected ICCI President, Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, and Senior Vice President, Faad Waheed, spoke about the potential of Pakistan’s resources and the need for consistent economic policies.

The ceremony concluded with awards presented to former Presidents of the Chamber, recognizing their service and dedication to the business community. The event was well-attended by business leaders, government officials, and media representatives.
