Government Introduces Subsidized Electric Bikes to Promote Green Transition

Islamabad: The government has announced a subsidy plan to distribute 40,000 electric motorcycles to the general public as part of its effort to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in the country. The initiative, unveiled by Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, aims to reduce pollution and lower the national oil import bill.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the subsidy plan will allocate four billion rupees to promote electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The plan includes significant incentives for foreign investors to establish electric vehicle manufacturing plants. Additionally, banks will offer soft loans to facilitate the public’s transition to electric vehicles.

The government will also distribute 120 electric motorcycles free of charge to top-performing students to reward academic excellence. To support the growing number of electric vehicles, roughly three thousand charging stations will be established nationwide.
