Government Pledges to Tackle Financial Issues in Power Sector, Promises Tariff Reductions

Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari has announced the government’s commitment to addressing the financial difficulties facing the power sector and to fostering its growth. He also promised that consumers would soon experience a decrease in power tariffs by 8-10% per unit.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during an appearance on a private news channel, Minister Leghari detailed the government’s strategic focus on revamping the power sector’s financing framework, which includes initiatives for boosting revenue, enhancing growth, and overhauling the taxation system. He articulated a comprehensive approach aimed at resolving the persistent financial challenges that have hindered the sector’s efficiency and stability.

Furthermore, Minister Leghari declared a zero-tolerance policy towards power theft, affirming that strict actions would be taken against officers found involved, regardless of when the infractions occurred. This move is part of broader efforts to improve governance and accountability within the sector.
